Father Of Missing Man Asks Mount Vernon For Support

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Mount Vernon firefighter Ivory Green is not giving up hope on his son, who disappeared in Petersburg, Va., nearly three years ago.

Green appeared before the City Council on Wednesday night to ask for cooperation between the cities of Mount Vernon and Petersburg in finding his son. Green’s son Michael Leslie Green was reported missing Dec. 18, 2009, while a college student at Virginia State University. Green said his son’s roommate told him that his son was not feeling well that night and went to sleep. But by the next morning, he was gone without a trace.

“Nobody has heard from him since,” Green said. “I went to the police in Mount Vernon on Monday, and they told me there is not much that they can do since it happened in Virginia. I’m hoping that by coming before the City Council we can get more exposure for Michael.”

Green said he and his family have been to Virginia multiple times, passing out fliers with his son’s picture on them and putting up a billboard.
“I reached out to 'America’s Most Wanted' twice and got no response,” Green said. “Every time I’ve been to Virginia our search was unfruitful.”

All the City Council members said they support Green and his family and would do whatever they could to help. Councilwoman Karen Watts-Yehudah said she would call the Petersburg Police Department to try to resolve the issue any way she could.
“I don’t know what is needed or what we can provide, but sometimes agencies need to know that there is support behind it,” Watts-Yehudah said.

Councilman J. Yuhanna Edwards said it was the first time he had heard about Green’s case and pledged to do whatever he could to help.

“It’s unfortunate that on the nightly news there is always someone missing,” Edwards said. “It’s amazing. We will keep you son in our prayers and hopefully he is doing well wherever he is and we’ll find him.”
