Body Of Missing Person From Williamsburg Found After 13 Years
By: Staff Writer
February 18, 2013

(B’Chadrei Charedim) Yisrael Meir Beck, a resident of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, disappeared 13 years ago and has not been heard from since. This past Friday his body was found in a non Jewish cemetery.

Yisrael Meir disappeared on February 25, 2000. A large reward was promised for information regarding his disappearance. His family with the help of NYPD and a large base of volunteers searched extensively for him. But they were unable to discover what happened to him.

A few weeks ago one of his relatives decided to try again to find Yisrael Meir. He searched through hundreds of files of people who died around New York over the last 13 years.

He discovered that the graves, of the people police were not able to identify before burial, were marked with a number. The police and forensic institute number the graves with the hope that one day police will be able to identify the bodies through DNA or photos .

The family member turned to a Chesed Shel Emes – who appealed to the authorities for Yisrael Meir’s DNA. After receiving an example – it was transferred to the forensic Institute.

On Friday afternoon, the reply came:

It turns out that on the day he disappeared – Yisroel was admitted to Jamaica hospital due to health problems. He had no identification. A few days later – in Shevat תש”ס – he died. His body was kept in the hospital for several weeks. After nobody came to claim the body, it was transferred to the morgue – and then buried in a local non Jewish cemetery.

The new information was immediately brought to the family and to he Chesed Shel Emes, The authorities were contacted on Friday for permission to dig up the grave to bring Yisrael Meir Beck home to a Jewish cemetery.Details about the funeral – will be published soon.
