Details of Disappearance
Samiya Haqiqi was last seen about 2:30 the afternoon of Friday, Nov 12 leaving Quinnipiac Law School in New Haven. She was believed to be meeting her boyfriend Fahid Popal for dinner and intended to break up with him. She was to visit her parents ater the dinner but never arrived.

When she failed to appear, her family and local police began a desperate search for the missing student. Three days later family members discovered Haqiqi’s 1997 black Volkswagen Jetta convertible abandoned in the parking lot of a Grand Union supermarket, at Northern Boulevard and Marathon Parkway in Little Neck. According to police officials, the car was locked and there was no sign of foul play. Left behind on the seat, a gold necklace that Haqiqi was fond of wearing.

Fahid Popal and his brother Farhad Popal, were arrested in Fremont, Calif., on August 2, 2002 in connection with the disappearance and death of Samiya Haqiq. Detectives discovered a clump of hair in an auto-repair garage on Long Island, where these brothers worked. A DNA analysis of the hair revealed it was Samiya’s. Samiya's body has yet to be found.
