Gaetano Vallese

Gaetano “Guy” Richard Vallese of Fishkill was last seen May 14, 1979, driving north on the New York State Thruway out of New York City. He would now be 68 years old.

Interviews with people close to Vallese said he might have had ties to organized crime in the New York City area. Investigator Matt Manza with state police Troop K, inherited the case in September. He said police are actively pursuing any information regarding a man who may have information about Vallese’s whereabouts.

Manza said interviews conducted in 2010 pointed to a man named Teddy Cohen, from the Bronx, as an associate of Vallese’s in the 1970s. The name could be an alias, Manza said.

Vallese’s estranged wife reported him missing after he didn’t show up to pick up his daughters as scheduled, Manza said. When investigators went to his home on Smithtown Road, they found his vehicle — described as a 1977 blue Chevrolet — parked in the garage. His house was locked.

Manza said investigators found no indication that Vallese was murdered.

“That’s the thing with organized crime, if there is a connection, you don’t know if they decided to turn into a witness and go into witness protection,” Manza said.

Vallese is a 5-foot-8-inch white male, weighing about 150 pounds. He had brown hair, long in the back, and was balding in the front, according to his NamUs report. He wore a thick mustache and had a tattoo of a cross in a heart on his right upper arm that read “In Memory of Mom.”
